Hundreds of spectators including prehistory enthusiasts, shamans and followers ofalternative spiritualitiesgathered, as usual in the morning of the 21st December at the doorstep of the most magnificent Irish prehistoric monument- Newgrange passage tomb.
Only at the time of winter solstice the passage and chamber of the mound at Newgrange are illuminated by rays of the rising sun. Access to the chamber this morning is decided by lottery, so only about 50 people are allowed to experience sunrise inside the tomb. Unfortunately this year sky was covered by clouds, but spiritual celebrations took place outside the monument anyway.
